A woman, man and their pets were out in the cold Thursday after a house fire in Amherstburg.

Amherstburg fire crews responded to 1790 Erie Ave shortly before 6 p.m.

Fire Chief Randy Sinesac says damage is estimated at $250,000 to $300,000.

Sinesac says the homeowner was soldering pipes when the house caught fire and the flames spread into the walls. The owner tried to fight the fire himself first before calling 911.

It took firefighters about two hours to put out the blaze.

There were no injuries.
