A 35-year-old Windsor man was arrested after an alleged on-board disturbance on a Via Rail train Thursday night.

Via staff called the Chatham-Kent police about a disruptive man with a knife aboard a passenger train travelling from Toronto to Windsor at 8:40 p.m.

The male passenger allegedly was demonstrating bizarre behaviour that included talking to himself, having an agitated demeanor, and swearing at other passengers.

When the train arrived at the Chatham train station at 9:12 p.m., officers boarded the train and arrested the man without further incident. During a search incident to his arrest, police say a pocket knife was found.

No passengers or officers were injured as a result of this incident. Officers say no direct threats were made to anyone although passengers reported having concerns about the man’s behaviour.

The Windsor man was charged with causing a disturbance and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
