The future of Windsor’s skunk control program will be determined at the next city council meeting.

Administration is recommending city councillors cease the trapping portion of the skunk control program. If approved, the program would cease effective Aug. 4.

In March 2013, the city authorized the program and allocated $250,000 to hire trappers on a one year trial basis.

The decision to revoke the program comes weeks after the city’s hard-sided garbage container bylaw came into effect. The city previously stated that the introduction of this bylaw was in an attempt to eliminate a food source for rodents and skunks.

However, administration is recommending council continue the rat baiting program and education portion of the skunk program until March 31.

City council will next meet on July 21.
