Holiday commuters should be aware of a 'wintry mix' headed towards southern Ontario overnight Thursday.

Environment Canada released a special weather statement Thursday, saying several disturbances originating in Texas, are expected to move towards the lower Great Lakes.

The first system is expected to hit Friday, with a mix of rain and snow. However, the agency warns that the storm will transform by Sunday with a mix bag that could see freezing rain, ice pellets and snow.

The storm is expected to hit, just as commuters start heading to their holiday destination, by plane, train and automobile.
