Electric car owners will have more options for recharging between Detroit and Montreal.

Sun Country Highway is expanding its publicly accessible Electric Vehicle charging network along the Highway 401.

The company says over 20 of the fastest level two chargers available have been installed every 50 to 98 kilometres of the corridor.

“This is a remarkable achievement for Canada,” says Kent Rathwell, president of Sun Country Highway. “The 401 highway is the busiest highway in North America and now business travelers and eco-tourists have the option to travel emission-free.”

Representatives from Sun Country Highway will be traveling from Montreal to Detroit in a Tesla Roadster and Tesla Model S, a Chevrolet Volt, and Canada’s first full sized electric van, VTRUX to promote the event.

The charging stations are free for the drivers, the electricity is provided by the host of the location.
